We have been very active lately performing Data Recoveries for folks who don't subscribe to Data Lodge.  Let me explain how data is stored so you have a better understanding of the process of how we recover it.

When you delete a file from your computer or digital camera, the data that makes up the file stays intact until you overwrite it with something else.  The only thing that changes is the entry for that file in the file allocation table or MFT or journal (depending on operating system) is removed.  Essentially, it is removed from what the file system pays attention to but it still exists.  This is good if you delete files accidentally.

What we typically do is reconstruct your files based on the data that exists on the hard drive but has been removed from the FAT, MFT, Journal, etc.  This can be really quick in some cases or take a few days in other cases.  It all depends on the condition of the data and the sheer amount of data we have to examine.

We use several different professional recovery suites to scan and recover data from your hard drives.  Each program has its own strengths and we want to make sure we maximize the potential for data recovery.  One of the programs we use for Flash Media Cards performs a regressive search and in many cases can product pictures that were taken years ago or at least many sessions ago.
